References are great – in writing and in art. They are required. But don’t take and call your own

Now I have had people add on or write their own stuff in my worlds. They clear it with me first and I’m chill with it. One person took one of my Hanahaki tales and extended it because my ending broke her heart.

Both of these are OK because the writers credited me as the owner of the world or the original story and that is what OP is saying. Credit. Don’t steal. Use the inspiration and then dig deep and ask yourself what stirs your soul.

I thought I made my point last night…

I would wake up and be done with it. However after a a shitty night sleep and waking up to thia dumbassy

I decided to yeah I would take this one step further.

Luckily for me i do have an artist daughter who has all sorts of programs like this one. This is the two photos in question if anyone really cares. I don’t have the patience nor time to make aure they both are completely even but you get the point on it. They are almost identical.

You do not get that from a reference picture no matter how good you are. By the way copying or reproduction from a picture without changing anything is not okay either. If you are going to use a collection or a something to get the face right use a picture from the game(not a cg, we already had that issue with another tracer in the fandom, ironically they also changed their name and sot of went back to doing the same shit).

It’s common sense people. Look it your picture good, yes. But it is simply not yours to say it is. This will stop people feom producing fan art if they feel someone could easily trace or scan or whatever their hard work.

This goes for writing as well. I am not talking reading something and then Saying that was good I want more and then continuing the thought with your own take. I mean going on a platform and copying and pasting shit into word and changing a few words. Frankly that is lazy and just as wrong. Not to mention both are illegal.

This is a way to shit the fandom down. No one will produce anything because of the fear someone will steal it. Give credit where credit is due.

Exactly and well said. I have loved some peoples writing and asked can I do something with this. I have also sat back and said “you know that was a great thing, it inspired me.” That is how shattered bones came about inspired by my cousin @ikesenhell ‘s summoning circle but also loosly how leasons learned came about from “Yes professor” a short by @jennacat84. I gave and continue to give credit to both for the inspiration on both stories.

If you like something that is great. If you want to do something like it, wonderful. If you want to continue a story line, ask the writer, nine times out of ten they will be more excited about it than you are.

No one will call a person out if they simply say, yeah I wanted to try an art style and I traced this. I understand that. I have zero, none, nada actual art skills. I have to have visual references and even then it sucks. I would never though say “yup thats mine.” To many people in this fandom belong to both sides en and jp and see the art from all the artists. It simply can’t be done to copy something.

Now I have people why is this a big deal for you? Simply if people do it once they will continue to do it. They will do it with art. They will do it with writing. They will drive such a wedge into the fandom it will simply implode. This needs to be shared, this needs to be called out, this simply needs to stop.
