山王神社の祭神は大山咋神（おほやまくひのかみ）。
境内掲示によると『本来「高乗寺」の守護神として祀られていた「天王社」、「住吉社」、「愛宕社」、「弁財天社」、「天神社」の各社は初沢町第二町内会創立と共にその鎮守とし、昭和40年（1965年）8月現在地に遷座、昭和41年（1966年）10月に他4社を合祀し、5社を「高乗寺」並びに町内会の守護神とした。』 【抜粋意訳】
階段は130段余り在り、手摺は整備されているが、最上部を除き直登。
